Post office worker pleads guilty to stealing meds intended for veterans in Southwest Virginia
A former US Mail employee pleaded guilty in federal court in Abingdon to intercepting parcels of medicines sent to treat military veterans.
Ammie Hale, 45, of Raysal, West Virginia, was charged with three counts of theft of mail and one count of making false statements.
Prosecutors said postal inspector offices received 40 complaints of packages sent from the Salem, Virginia Veterans Medical Center never arriving at patients’ homes located in Tazewell. Investigators witnessed Hale taking the parcels into an employee area and removing pills then placing them in her purse.
Hale faces up to 20 years in prison when she is sentenced on June 2nd.
