Sen. Pillion: Bill seeking reduction in job creation requirements for tax exemption for data centers heading to Governor’s desk
Bipartisan legislation involving a Southwest Virginia lawmaker working to incentivize developing data centers in distressed counties is heading to Gov. Ralph Northam’s desk.
Sen. Todd Pillion of Abingdon sponsored a bill that would’ve eliminated a job creation requirement to qualify for tax exemption for data centers. Both House and Senate chambers amended and passed the measure which reduces the job creation requirement from 25 to 15 jobs to qualify for the tax exemption. Pillion says the passing of the bill gives Southwest Virginia a greater opportunity to compete for high-paying jobs and revenue that data centers provide.
