TVA, Appalachian Power parent company among six power providers involved in ‘Electric Highway’ project
Six major utility companies including local providers TVA and American Electric, the parent company of Appalachian Power, announced plans to construct and form a network of fast-charging stations for electric automobiles.
The web or electric highway of support charging terminals will extend westward into the Central Plains and woven into the chain of roadways along the Atlantic Coast, Midwest, and the Southern and Gulf states.
The construction is being started to meet future demand of electric vehicle commuters who will number well over 200,000 in seven years according to TVA estimates while the Edison Electric Institute predicts 18 million electric cars, trucks, and SUVs will hit US highways by the year 2030.
The other companies involved are Dominion, Duke Power, Entergy, and Southern.
