With NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and BMS General Manager Jerry Caldwell looking on, Cooper signed the letter of intent for the project that would remodel the property first opened in the early 1900s for community and racing events including NASCAR-sanctioned contests at the track for the first time since 1984.
Bristol officials would be in charge of renovation and maintenance of the Nashville facility while part of the admission fees would be earmarked for schools in the metro area.
