Appalachian Power requesting SCC approve 11 percent hike in customers’ electric bills

Virginia customers of Appalachian Power could see their electric bill increase by nearly $12 by this summer if the State Corporation Commission agrees with the company’s request.

APCO’s parent company American Electric Power asked for the 11 percent hike in transmission costs to supplement their proposed plan to replace and refurbish major components within their power grid.

The move would increase APCO’s Transmission Rate Adjustment Clause by more than $112 million. It’s the first rate increase in Virginia proposed by American Electric since 2017.
