TDOE: Northeast TN school districts participating in Reading 360 initiative to boost literacy skills in Tennessee
48 Tennessee school districts including six in East Tennessee are participating in a $100 million initiative to boost reading skills in students.
Reading 360, according to the Tenn. Dept of Education, has eight regional implementation networks with the selected districts with the goal of supporting high-quality English language arts instructional materials for PreK-12 students through competitive grants throughout the next five years. The regions will have one mentor district and 4-6 participating districts along with a vendor partner with options to select an elementary, middle, or high school focus.
In our region, Unicoi County Schools is the mentor district, while Cocke, Sevier, Sullivan, Union, and Washington County Schools are participating districts. The initiative’s optional reading resources will be of no cost to the state or district, and families will have online tutoring and other support options to help develop literacy skills.
