Commonwealth’s Attorney exonerates Pennington Gap resident of any charges in fatal shooting

A Lee County, Virginia man will not be charged for his role in a fatal shooting last week.
Commonwealth’s Attorney H. Fuller Cridlin said the 65-year-old man was justified in killing Kevin Corbin during a domestic fight at the man’s home in Pennington Gap on Wednesday.
Corbin, 47, had already injured the man’s daughter and had threatened to kill both of them and himself while trying to break into the home. A Virginia State Police report said Corbin had grabbed his wife by the hair and was trying to pull her out when the homeowner fired the fatal shot.
The attorney said the use of deadly force was the last resort in Corbin’s killing. Cridlin reported that Corbin had a violent criminal history including a 1992 conviction for second-degree murder.
