Virginia’s Unemployment Rate Drops But Lots Of Work Still Needed
Virginia’s unemployment rate fell to five point two percent nearly three percentage points above the rate from a year ago. Virginia Governor Ralph Northam says while the state’s rate is moving in the right direction, the economic impacts of the pandemic continue to challenge workers and businesses across the Commonwealth. Northam says the state is committed to providing additional relief to those most in need, helping Virginian’s return to the workforce and making targeted investments to build back key sectors of the economy. Over the year employment growth in Virginia had been positive for six consecutive years a year ago, but dramatically change course with the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
