Passenger Rail Service To Bristol…Now May Be The Time…According To Roanoke Editorial
Since 2008, Bristol Virginia has been mentioned as a possible stopping point for passenger rail service. In 2017, Governor Ralph Northam pushed his idea of rail service to Bristol by saying rail service to the state’s southwest border was a logical step. And now, an editorial in the Roanoke Times says it may be time for rail service to the City of Bristol. The legislature says 83 and a half million dollars is needed to bring rail service to the New River Valley and with that now a possibility, rail service to Bristol could come next. The Editorial goes on to say the state budget officially lays out the goal of extending passenger rail service to Bristol at an estimated cost of 30 million dollars. The editorial concludes by saying Southwest Virginia delegation in Nashville and Washington need to let state and federal officials know that Bristol wants to get on board.
