THP: Body of Hawkins County woman recovered after crashing into river
A body was recovered following a water rescue Sunday in Hawkins County.
The Hawkins County Rescue Squad was called to the Housewright Hollow Road area around 3 p.m. where they found a vehicle almost completely submerged in water. A resident alerted rescue crews that an individual was outside of the vehicle in the water. Several of rescue team members entered the water and recovered the individual that was determined to have been the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the individual as Donna Adams, 61, of Surgoinsville, TN, who according to a crash report was traveling east on Housewright Hollow Road and left the left side of the road into Big Creek, where her vehicle was swept away downstream.
She was found partially submerged about 20 yards from the car’s final resting place after being swept from the rear passenger side. THP says they believe Adams drowned.
