Superstar producer Pharrell Williams calls for transparency in Virginia Beach shooting investigation that claimed his cousin
Award-winning producer and hip hop artist Pharrell Williams is mourning the loss of his cousin and UVA-Wise graduate Donovan Lynch who was identified as one of those killed in a string of shootings in Virginia Beach over the weekend.
Williams said in an Instagram post that all affected by the tragedy including his own family receive transparency, honesty, and justice as the investigation continues.
Virginia Beach Chief of Police Paul Neudigate first announced that it was uncertain if Lynch was holding a weapon at the time he was shot and killed by a city police officer.
Neudigate updated his statement by saying the officer involved and a fellow patrolman witnessed Lynch holding a firearm prior to the incident. Another person on the scene of the shooting also said Lynch was armed.
There is still no word on why the officer’s body camera was not activated during the shooting.
