UPDATE: Virginia Beach police hand officer-involved shooting investigation over to State Police

The investigation into the officer-involved shooting of a University of Virginia’s College at Wise student in Virginia Beach is now in the hands of State Police.

The city police force has come under fire following the death of Donovan Lynch, 25, on several fronts including conflicting stories on whether Lynch was armed during the March 26th shooting and why the officer in question had his body camera turned off during the incident.

The department has announced the officer has served Virginia Beach for 5 years and is a part of their special operations unit. That African-American officer and another member of the department have both told investigators that Lynch had a gun when he was shot.

A total of 10 people were shot or injured in those oceanfront shootings. One of the victims was identified as Shay Harris, 29, of Norfolk who appeared on the Oxygen reality series “Bad Girls Club” in season 17.
