NEW: ‘Evelyn Boswell’s Law’ signed by Gov. Lee
Legislation created in the memory of missing Sullivan County toddler Evelyn Boswell has been signed by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee.
Lee signed Evelyn Boswell’s Law on Thursday according to the Tennessee legislative information website. The measure, sponsored by local lawmakers Jon Crawford and Jon Lundberg, requires parents to report a missing child 12 years and younger to law enforcement within 24 hours, and failure to do so could result in a Class A misdemeanor.
Evelyn Boswell was the subject of a statewide search for two weeks after being reported missing in February, but was discovered deceased on a family member’s property the night of March 6. Her mother Megan, is accused of killing Evelyn and faces several charges including two counts of felony murder in Evelyn’s death.
Evelyn Boswell’s Law takes effect July 1.
