ETSU announces formation of Center for Cardiovascular Risks Research
East Tennessee State University has announced the formation of a new medical fact-finding hub that has a primary focus on heart health.
The Center for Cardiovascular Risks Research will pair med students with doctors and surgeons with vast experience in patient-centered treatment and developing community programs that promote preventive care in the battle against cardiovascular disease.
ETSU Interim Provost Dr. Wilsie Bishop says it will benefit the region’s residents who live in a state where 11 percent of all adults deal with heart ailments, which is higher than the national average of 8 percent.
“The fact that we will have faculty and students and faculty mentoring in this center to find causes, to find better ways of treating, to look at this from a population perspective is so significant,” Bishop said during Tuesday’s online session.
