DOJ: St. Paul, VA woman pleads guilty to federal charges in pandemic unemployment scheme
A St. Paul, Virginia woman has pleaded guilty in a pandemic unemployment scheme in US District Court in Abingdon.
Brittany McReynolds pled guilty to charges she conspired with others to commit mail fraud and defraud the US Government of nearly $183,000. McReynolds admitted to prosecutors that she and others, including her husband Travis Kilgore, filed claims for pandemic unemployment benefits through the VEC website.
This scheme involved submitting claims for various individuals who were not eligible to receive benefits. Prosecutors also said McReynolds falsely filed the unemployment claims on numerous occasions.
In total, 22 individuals were apart of the conspiracy while more than $182,000 in false claims were filed.
