Kingsport man charged with attempted second-degree murder after allegedly firing shot at officers following pursuit
A Kingsport man is facing two counts of attempted second-degree murder after authorities say he shot at officers.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 500 block of Wadlow Gap Road just after 7:30 Saturday evening on a report of a shooting incident. Deputies soon learned that suspect Edward Zanes, 46, failed to stop at a checkpoint in Scott County, Virginia, and a pursuit ensued.
Police say Zanes led a Scott County, VA deputy and Virginia State Police trooper across state lines into Tennessee. Zanes crashed his vehicle after crossing into Sullivan County, and then allegedly got out of the vehicle and fired a shot at officers.
He was arrested a short time later on charges of two counts of attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and felony evading arresta short time later and no officers were injured.
