Smyth County Sheriff: One dead following camper fire Monday night
An investigation is underway in Smyth County, Virginia into a camper fire that killed one person Monday night.
Smyth County Sheriff Chip Shuler said investigators from his department along with multiple area fire departments were called to a camper fire close to 10 p.m. at the 2700 block of Scratch Gravel Road in Marion. The fire was extinguished but a body was discovered inside the charred remains of the camper.
The victim has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoake for an autopsy. Virginia State Police is assisting in the investigation and no foul play is suspected.
