BMS honors ‘Slammin’ Sammy’ at this weekend’s Bristol Throwdown
The driver who logged the fastest lap in the history of Bristol Motor Speedway is being honored at this weekend’s World of Outlaws Bristol Throwdown event.
Three-time Outlaws Champion Slammin Sammy Swindell has been named the grand marshal for the festivities that marked the return of the series to Thunder Valley for the first time in 20 years.
It was a visit to Bristol in the early 2000s when Swindell set the track record with a 13.8-second lap that carried an average speed of 138 miles per hour—exceeding the NASCAR Cup Series qualifying record set by Ryan Blaney just two years ago that only registered 132 miles per hour.
Two of Swindell’s 394 wins came at Bristol.
