Boater killed, fishing tournament contestant injured in weekend boat collision near Douglas Dam
The operator of a bass boat died at the scene of a weekend collision just upstream from Douglas Dam in neighboring Jefferson County.
Billy Ray Martin, 65, of Pikeville, Kentucky, reportedly drove his vessel into another boat carrying participants in a fishing tournament Saturday morning just before 9:30, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
The driver of the other boat, Chris Sexton, 39, of Corryton, Tennessee, was taken to a Knoxville hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A juvenile in his boat and another Pikeville resident in Martin’s craft were rescued from the water.
