Greeneville Fire Department now ranked in top 4 percent of Tennessee’s fire crews
The latest safety certification achieved by the Greeneville Fire Department places it among the top 4 percent of fire crews in the state of Tennessee.
City leaders have announced the department’s recommendation of Class 2 status by the Insurance Services Office that will take effect August 1.
City Administrator Todd Smith the new title is a two-fold victory: one, it means a safer community because of the GFDs upgrades in equipment and enhancement training in a new facility, and two, the ranking could equal potential rate advantages for Greeneville property owners with lower premiums.
According to University of Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service fire consultant Dennis Wolf, only 34 of 852 departments in the state have achieved the latest title given to Greeneville.
