NEW: Mask mandates end at midnight in Virginia, other mitigation measures gone May 28
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam IS announcing the end of mask mandates in the commonwealth and the lifting of all COVID mitigation measures effective Friday, May 28.
The CDC green light to all vaccinated Americans caused Northam to move up the conclusion of those safety measures two weeks ahead of schedule.
Masks will still be required in all K-12 public schools because of low vaccination levels among children. Virginia has administered nearly 7 million COVID vaccines. The state currently has a positivity rate of 3.5 percent which is lower than at any time since the start of the pandemic.
