Eastside, Wise Central crowned state champions at VHSL Theatre Festival

A pair of local acting ensembles from Southwest Virginia recently captured top honors at the Virginia High School League Theatre Festival.

Eastside High School which serves the Coeburn and St. Paul area was crowned Class 1 state champions with their performance of “The Tempest” with Olivia Adkins and Sarah Burke placing first and second in the Outstanding Actor category. Dallas Meade, also of Eastside, placed fourth.

The cast of Wise Central High’s “When She Had Wings” earned state champ status in Class 2 with Maria Boggs selected as top actor in the division.
