JCPD: Man allegedly hit six-year old, woman during domestic incident

A Johnson City man is facing domestic assault and child abuse charges after police say he struck a female and six year old.

Johnson City Police officers were called to Garden Drive early Sunday morning where a female was on a video call with a family member who witnessed an alleged assault and called police. When police arrived, officers could hear what they thought sounded like an assault occurring within the apartment.

An investigation by authorities found that suspect Jose Cordero, 34, reportedly hit the female victim several times in addition to hitting a six year old child while they were being held by the victim.

Cordero is also accused of destroying the victim’s phone to prevent her from calling 911. Cordero was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
