Blackburn campaigns for more security as millions of teens flock to Tik Tok
It attracts more than 680 million active users every month, it’s the top-ranked download in the Apple Store, and more than 60 percent of its users are between the ages of 10 and 29.
Tik Tok was targeted during the Trump administration and Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn is continuing the assault claiming the app’s Chinese owners’ strategy is to keep children online as long as possible.
“And it seems that Tik Tok is proving to be incapable of doing the right thing,” Blackburn said during a recent session of the Senate Commerce Committee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security.
Blackburn says Tik Tok and similar social media platforms are tracking their habits, preferences, and other sensitive information for profit while placing them at a security risk.
“With millions of teen users, disappearing messages, and a map of all of your contacts, this has become a child predator’s dream,” she said.
