Virginia DMME seeing success with program aimed to assist in economic projects on previously mined land
Economic development projects on land previously used for coal mining will get backing from the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals, and Energy.
DMME launched the Innovative Reclamation program in January and has already helped set a solar development project into motion at a former mining site in Buchanan County. The program is comprised of staff with expertise in geographic data that can provide information to developers about the possibilities of using previously mined land.
This group also works on current reclamation plans on approved sites, and assists grant recipients in the Abandoned Mine Land Revitalization Program.
