Former Mount Carmel Mayor gets three years probation in theft, official misconduct cases
Former Mount Carmel Mayor Chris Jones will avoid jail time after pleading guilty in two separate cases Thursday.
The Hawkins County Court Clerk’s office said Jones pled guilty to an amended charge of financial exploitation of an elderly adult and received two years probation. That case involved the TBI investigating Jones reportedly stealing over $300,000 from his grandmother.
He also pleaded guilty to one count of official misconduct and received one year of probation. In that case, Jones and a Mount Carmel alderman was accused of creating a bogus eviction notice using the official Mount Carmel town seal to remove Jones’s girlfriend from a home owned by the alderman.
