NEW: Marion man indicted for homicide, arson in connection to March house fire
A grand jury has indicted the man police said killed a Marion, Virginia woman then left her body inside the home after setting the structure on fire.
Jason Emory Whittaker, 36, is charged with homicide, arson, and abduction in connection to the March 18 incident at a home on North Chestnut Street where the remains of Teresa Lynn Methena Greer were discovered by firefighters.
Whittaker reportedly attacked a man in Surry County, North Carolina the next day with a machete. He was arrested there then extradited back to Virginia.
Whittaker is also facing one count of cruelty to animals in relation to the Marion incident.
