Grand jury indicts former Washington County detention officer on charge of excessive force

A detention center officer fired last month by the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office has been indicted on charges of using excessive force on a jail inmate.
Shannon Lee Kinley is charged with simple assault, official misconduct, and official oppression, according to a report issued by Sheriff Ed Graybeal’s office.
Kinley, 44, had no previous disciplinary issues with the department in his 7 years of employment. Evidence presented to a grand jury said the officer also failed to document the incident with department officials.
Kinley was released after posting a $10,000 bond and has an arraignment hearing set for July 26.
