Conversations with Malvo at Wise County’s Red Onion Prison woven into new Vice docuseries
Conversations recorded inside a Southwest Virginia supermax prison with convicted Washington, DC sniper Lee Boyd Malvo are featured in a new network docuseries.
Vice Media Group is currently streaming “I, Sniper” with Malvo as one of the narrators with audio clips captured by producers while visiting the former teen killer at Red Onion State Prison located in Wise County.
Filmmaker Mary-Jane Mitchell told the Associated Press that she compiled excerpts from several 15-minute talks that took place over a two-year period.
Malvo was 17 when he was captured along with 41-year-old John Allen Muhammad following a three-week reign of terror in 2002 that left 17 people dead in DC and 10 other states including Virginia.
Muhammad was executed in 2009. Attorneys for Malvo have filed several appeals on his behalf while he serves several life sentences.
