Dickenson County driver gets 9 years in prison for police chase

A Dickenson County, Virginia man will spend several years behind bars for his actions during a police pursuit last summer where he almost struck a Virginia State Police trooper.

Dakota Gilliam of Clintwood received a 9-year sentence in Lee County Circuit Court for charges related to the pursuit that stretched from Big Stone Gap to the eastern end of the locality.

According to testimony, the trooper was trying to deploy spike strips to stop Gilliam’s car when the near-collision occurred.
