Additional millions awarded to runway extension project at Virginia Highlands Airport
US Congressman Morgan Griffith has announced additional funding for a project at Virginia Highlands Airport in Abingdon.
The funding is in the form of a $3.2 million grant from the US Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program.
Virginia Highlands officials have taken receipt of more than $20 million from similar funding sources to expand their runway which will allow for more air traffic and larger aircraft that Griffith says will boost the region’s economic development options.
