Non profit group says Southwest Virginia coaching staff violated court-banned prayer
A Southwest Virginia school district has received a warning from a national group that promotes the separation of church and state.
Tazewell County Public Schools received a report from the Freedom From Religion Foundation based in Wisconsin after someone at a Graham High soccer game earlier this month witnessed the coaching staff participating in prayer with students.
The group said the coach’s actions give the impression of promoting religion in a setting that should be inviting to all spectators.
School leaders in Unicoi County, Tennessee voted to have a Christian flag removed from their sessions in 2016 after complaints to the FFRF.
