Recreational Marijuana Now Legal In Commonwealth of Virginia
July first brings with it a host of new laws in the State of Virginia, but probably none as controversial as the legalization of recreational marijuana in the Commonwealth. Today (Thursday) marks the first day of a new law in Virginia that allows for a maximum of one ounce of marijuana for personal use for those 21 years of age or older. Virginians can also grow up to four marijuana plants per household as long as the plant isn’t visible to the public, people younger than 21 years of age do not have access to them, and each plant must have a legal tag attached that includes the person’s name, driver’s license or ID number. Commercial sales of pot in the Commonwealth will not be legal until January first of 2024, and that is dependent on what the General Assembly does in its upcoming session later this year.
