Virginia Department Of Corrections To Open To External Visitors Beginning Next Week
During the ongoing pandemic, the world moved from in person meetings to meeting via video platforms like Zoom. And the Virginia Department of Corrections was no different. With vaccination rates rising, and COVId-19 cases falling, the DOC, beginning next week will once again allow external visitors back into its facilities. Attorneys, family members, and others who need to meet with DOC inmates will be allowed to do so in person. Meanwhile, given current conditions, the department plans to open facilities to religious visitors and volunteers as early as August 1 and to open in-person family visitation by September 1. Currently, 72 percent of DOC inmates have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 65 percent are fully vaccinated.
