Police chief: Increased calls in Lynn Garden leads to staffing at substation two days a week for public

Kingsport Chief of Police Dale Phipps says a high volume of calls for service in Lynn Garden has prompted staffing officers in the department’s substation twice a week while opening the center to the public.

Increased concerns voiced by the community also figured into the chief’s decision to staff the facility for select hours on Wednesdays and Fridays. Phipps also noted that he hopes the high visibility will deter crime and help residents feel safer.

The substation is located within Fire Station 5 at 1517 Lynn Garden Drive. Visitors can talk with officers on those days from 10 am to noon and 3 to 5 pm.
