UPDATE: State Police reviewing officer’s body camera footage as part of Appalachia investigation
The results of a preliminary investigation by the Virginia State Police say a 16-year-old teenager from Norton was the aggressor in an altercation that led to his death after he was shot by a Wise County deputy.
The footage from Officer Rob Robinson’s body camera is now being reviewed by state officials as part of an official review of the weekend incident in the Dunbar section of Appalachia.
The teen used a knife with a hawkbill blade in the assault on Robinson that was recovered at the scene. A 13-year-old girl who left her home overnight with the victim was returned to her parents and was not injured.
Robinson remains hospitalized and a GoFundMe account has been started by a family member to assist with medical bills and other expenses.
