Sheriff: Man holds Johnson City family members at gunpoint, has 3-plus hour standoff with cops
A Johnson City man is charged with attempted murder after holding family members at gunpoint and trying to set their home on fire by dousing furniture with diesel fuel.
A report from Sheriff Ed Graybeal’s office said Jason S. Guire is also charged with aggravated arson following the incident on Carr Cemetery Road that occurred early Thursday.
Guire, 41, fled the scene and was pulled over on Herb Hodge Road where he held a gun to his head during the three-plus hour standoff and also fired his weapon twice into the Watauga River.
Guire surrendered and was taken to the hospital. No other injuries were reported after he was able to light one piece of furniture.
The suspect was issued a $100,000 bond and has a scheduled arraignment in General Sessions Court on Friday.
