Maryland man charged with carjacking after threatening teen driver at knifepoint
A Maryland man who forced a driver from her car at knifepoint at a Wythe County restaurant has been charged by police.
A report from the county sheriff’s office says Cory Ryan Butts, 32, is charged with one count of felony carjacking following the incident at McDonald’s in Rural Retreat.
Preliminary details say Butts’ pickup truck broke down on Interstate 81 southbound. He walked to the eatery and threatened a teen driver then drove away with her vehicle. Butts was captured a few minutes later on I-81 in Smyth County.
He is being held without bond.
