Two Southwest Virginia Food Suppliers Receive Food Access Grants For Food Insecurities
A Scott County Virginia Marketplace and a small Russell County grocery store that help supplement food insecurities in what are considered underserved communities are receiving part of 620 thousand dollars in Virginia Food Access Investment Fund grants. Henry’s Marketplace, in Scott County will use 25 thousand dollars from the funds to support expanded retail space, coolers, and local produce sales as well as a new outdoor market and community event space featuring local artists and musicians. In rural Russell County, Honaker Wholesale a small grocery and general goods store where the nearest additional grocery option is at least a 25 minute drive away has been awarded 25 thousand dollars for additions and improvements, to lower costs and increase the availability and variety of fresh food to customers.
