Police: Southwest Virginia man charged after hospital reports severe injuries to 4-year-old

A Tazewell County man is being held in jail without bond after police said a 4-year-old child under his supervision was found severely beaten and with injuries from a sexual assault.

Shannon Hess, 37, of Cedar Bluff, is charged with child abuse, indecent liberties with a child, and drug possession.

Medical staff at a local hospital contacted the sheriff’s office after the child was treated for serious injuries including a brain bleed.
