Local Sheriff’s Offices And Regional Jails To Receive Five Thousand Dollar Bonuses In Virginia Budget
The Virginia House and Senate on Wednesday night gave their approval to a budget proposal drafted by Governor Northam that will direct the Commonwealth on how its going to spend nearly four and a half billion dollars in federal coronavirus relief money. There were several amendments to the budget including one giving staff of local sheriff’s offices and regional jails a one time five thousand dollar bonus. Northam’s draft budget calls for using the four point three billion dollars on initiatives aimed at helping local small businesses, improving air quality in public schools, bolstering mental health and substance abuse treatment programs and replenishing the state’s unemployment trust fund.
