UPDATE: Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson says active shooter 911 call at Volunteer High School was a “hoax”
Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson at 1:30 PM today said in a press conference that the active shooter situation at Volunteer High School appeared to be a “hoax”. Officers have not yet identified the suspect. Officials say a call was placed to 911 dispatch alerting officials of an active shooter situation at the school. The school was promptly placed on lockdown and a thorough investigation is still active. Lawson says no shots were fired in the school this morning. Officials also say one student that was transported to the hospital had a seizure and was not related to the ongoing emergency situation. Parents of VHS students have picked up their children at Mount Carmel Army National Guard and that site is now closed. As of now, Sheriff Lawson says Volunteer High School students will go back to school tomorrow.
