Emergency Response Organizes Shelter For Displaced Hurley Residents
The community of Hurley Virginia, located in Buchanan County in the heart of southwest Virginia is no stranger to floods. In 2002 Hurley was nearling washed off the map when flooding occurred due to heavy rainfall. Monday, some residents were unable to leave their homes quickly enough when the floods hit and had to be evacuated by rescue teams. Those rescued were taken to a shelter organized at Grundy Baptist Church on Edgewater Drive. With rain overnight, and more rain expected Wednesday emergency officials are bracing for more flooding and landslides as residents continue digging out.
