81 Head On Crash In Smyth County, Virginia Kills One, Injures Another
One person is dead following a fatal, head on crash with a vehicle and a tractor trailer in Smyth County, Virginia. Virginia State Police say 40 year old Luis Aguilar Rivas, of Cedar Creek, Texas was killed when the Nissan Pathfinder he was driving south on Interstate 81 at the 34 mile marker, ran off the left side of the roadway, through the median and then struck a tractor trailer head on. The tractor trailer ran off the road, went through the guardrail, struck a sign, and continued down a steep embankment before striking a tree. Rivas died from his injuries at Smyth County Community Hospital. The tractor trailer driver was treated for minor injuries.
