National Voter Registration Month in September
September is National Voter Registration Month, and the TN Secretary of State’s office is leading voter registration efforts with events across the state of Tennessee. Secretary of State, Tre Hargett says, “More Tennesseans are registered to vote now than any time in our state’s history. During National Voter Registration Month, we are looking to build on this momentum.” The office says they are working with high schools, universities, businesses, and organizations to make sure everyone knows that it has never been easier to register and cast a ballot in the state of Tennessee. Some things the Secretary of State’s office is doing to help this effort include giving awards to Tennessee high schools that register at least 85 percent of eligible students, as well as partnering with many businesses like Goodwill and Home Depot to promote voter registration to employees and the community.
