Local nonprofit legal aid organization receives over $500,000 grant; aims to assist victims of domestic, sexual abuse
A nonprofit legal aid society in Southwest Virginia will receive a five hundred thousand dollar-plus grant to assist victims of sexual and domestic abuse. This grant comes from the Legal Assistance for Victims Program of the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. The Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society will receive $585,631 to provide legal services under this grant. Acting U.S. Attorney, Daniel Bubar, says, “Aiding victims of crime is an essential function of the Department of Justice.” These funds will be used to increase availability of legal services needed to effectively support adult and youth victims. These legal services aim to improve access to justice, enhance survivor safety, and hold offenders accountable.
