UPDATE: Virginia DEQ orders Shearer’s to pay $19,500 penalty for fish kill in Bristol’s Little Creek
The operators of the Shearer’s Foods plant in Bristol, Virginia have been ordered by a state regulatory agency to pay a $19,500 penalty for their actions that resulted in a fish kill incident in June.
Documents from the Department of Environmental Quality say Shearer’s management notified them of a chemical spill into Little Creek as a result of a forklift accident on the morning of June 28th.
That chemical dump of 125 gallons led to approximately 8,000 fish being destroyed.
