Delegate Terry Kilgore to vie for Speaker of the House in January

Delegate Terry Kilgore of Gate City has announced he will seek the bid for Speaker of the House in the upcoming session of the Virginia General Assembly.

Kilgore, who has served in Richmond since he was first elected in 1994, broke the news in a prepared statement while congratulating fellow GOP members for their victories on Election Day including eight incumbents and five seats that were flipped from Democrat blue to red.

Kilgore also noted that Republicans will have a majority in the House for the next term that starts in January. Early projections by the Associated Press had some House races that were too close to call and the power struggle would be a 50-50 split in Richmond.

The Kilgore family have been involved in Scott County’s Republican Party for decades and hosted one of Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin’s final tour stops prior to Tuesday’s election on their farm outside of Gate City.
