Phone scams like this have circulated the region for years now, and Sullivan County officials urge the public to be wary of these calls.

They go on to say that no law enforcement agency will contact a citizen to collect money in order to avoid incarceration. If someone receives a suspicious call such as this, they are encouraged to contact the organization being represented to confirm the call’s legitimacy before paying any money.
