UPDATE: Police said Roan Mountain shootout was burglar versus homeowner

Carter County investigators said a Roan Mountain shooting stemmed from a homeowner discovering a burglar on his property on Cove Creek Road and ended with both men being shot.

Reggie Allen Putman, 48, is charged with attempted murder after he exchanged gunfire with Donald Richard Singleton who police said received life-threatening wounds and is in stable condition.

Sheriff Dexter Lunceford believes the incident was isolated. Putman remains hospitalized.
